Harris Estate - What is urbex?

Harris Estate - What is urbex?

Urbex is another term for urban exploration, which encompasses the exploration of man-made structures, usually vacant, abandoned ruins.  If you have ever taken a long drive through the country, there is a good chance that you have come across an old abandoned building or home.  Nature generally takes over and weather slowly tears down the once spectacular structures.

Harris Estate is a classic example of urban exploration.  Leah Murphy has inherited the property and the first thing she did was visit the newly acquired land.  You can picture the littered driveway full of weeds and heavy brush.  Large willow trees are heavy with overgrowth and many of the branches now rest on the ground below.  The old fence that is only standing in a few areas gives the visitor a glimpse at what was.  Then, the house.  Some might see the backdrop of a nightmare, but some may see fond memories or that of a simpler time.  The broken windows offer a glimpse inside the decades old home that has now succumbed to the elements and lack of attention.  The musty smell of decay can be overwhelming, yet intoxicating for the visitor.  Curiousity of what was, draws you in...
