Harris Estate Music

Harris Estate Music

It may sound odd to think about the soundtrack of a novel, but Harris Estate was written with several musical references.  To hear what the characters hear, really draws you into what they are experiencing.

Little Big Town has a wonderful song called "Girl Crush."  There is a pivotal part of the story that takes place between two characters while dancing to the song.   The song relates to their story and draws you in deeper to their growing connection.

Dave Matthews Band played an excellent concert in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2009, which becomes a commonality among Leah Murphy and Nick Jefferson, the lead officer investigating her case.

Oakdale, Texas is the scene for the majority of our story and Blake Shelton can be heard in the police station on an old dusty radio playing "Drink On It."  A little later "Sangria" plays at a local hot spot.

The local bar starts up the nights dancing with "Little Red Wagon" by Miranda Lambert, which stirs up the crowd and draws them to the dance floor.

Music definitely adds a personal touch to the story of Harris Estate and all of our lives.

Harris Estate - What is urbex?

Harris Estate - What is urbex?

Urbex is another term for urban exploration, which encompasses the exploration of man-made structures, usually vacant, abandoned ruins.  If you have ever taken a long drive through the country, there is a good chance that you have come across an old abandoned building or home.  Nature generally takes over and weather slowly tears down the once spectacular structures.

Harris Estate is a classic example of urban exploration.  Leah Murphy has inherited the property and the first thing she did was visit the newly acquired land.  You can picture the littered driveway full of weeds and heavy brush.  Large willow trees are heavy with overgrowth and many of the branches now rest on the ground below.  The old fence that is only standing in a few areas gives the visitor a glimpse at what was.  Then, the house.  Some might see the backdrop of a nightmare, but some may see fond memories or that of a simpler time.  The broken windows offer a glimpse inside the decades old home that has now succumbed to the elements and lack of attention.  The musty smell of decay can be overwhelming, yet intoxicating for the visitor.  Curiousity of what was, draws you in...

Leah Murphy

Who is the heroine of Harris Estate?

Leah Murphy is a wife and mother who resides in San Francisco, California.  Happily married with a four year old son (Ethan) and a twelve year old daughter (Kayla). Her savvy husband, Kevin Murphy, and herself own a lucrative IT Company in the Bay Area.

Leah had a pleasant upbringing with loving parents Carrie and Nicholas Doggett.  Her mother's sister, Aunt Maggie and her husband Kent Harris were like second parents to her.

When I think of Leah, I picture Anne Hathaway with her large curious eyes and short brown hair.  With a girl next door innocence, her 5 foot 4 inch height makes her seem even more fragile.  During her journey, one wants to shield her from the harsh reality of life, but she is the one that needs to make the decisions.
